Areas of Service
Our team covers three areas of mediation services:
Is It Possible to Rely on Remote Platforms?
Around the same time that the COVID-19 pandemic was starting, an increasing number of people began using Zoom and Skype. During this period, several news websites reported "Zoombombing," when persons who had no business being in Zoom video conferences presented erroneous content. These individuals should not have been in Zoom videoconferences. Since then, Zoom has made it so that password-protected sessions are the default setting. It has also implemented end-to-end encryption, preventing Zoom from viewing or retaining client data as it moves through its servers during sessions. These adaptations have resulted in an increased level of platform security. The same thing might be stated about the online capabilities of Skype. In addition, Zoom has improved its platform by including a new safety indicator in the toolbar. This symbol may only be accessed by the person hosting the Zoom video conference. Therefore, this enables the videoconference host to administer and monitor the operations of all participants' waiting rooms and screen-sharing capabilities. Additionally, it gives the host the ability to stop the meeting and kick people out if it becomes necessary to do so. Many businesses and professionals worldwide are switching to online platforms like Zoom and Skype because of increased data protection.
How does video conferencing work in web-based dispute resolution?
Wichita Mediation Services has a case manager who will aid the parties in determining what kind of online conflict resolution will serve them best. If your case is going to be handled using Zoom or Skype, a team member will provide you a secure link to your session at least two days before it is supposed to happen or offer you an invitation to join the Skype room. If your case is addressed through Zoom, the video conference link will become active, and you can click on it at the designated time. An employee or specialist will lead you to the waiting area before allowing you to join the videoconference. During a mediation, the participants may split into smaller groups and meet in various rooms. The only people allowed in these exclusive spaces are the video conferencing staff. The level of privacy afforded to the consumer is comparable to that of an in-person meeting. We suggest that before beginning remote mediation, Wichita Mediation Service’s staff go through a simple checklist to ensure that everyone involved is ready to commence.
